"Colonel, the Groupmind urgently requests a reply to its previous request for any information on the status of Groupming Explorer's current status," Henri, Mitterrand's morph, said.
"How many requests does that make so far?" Mitterrand asked, kicking back in his chair and resting his feet on his desk in the Explorer's rotational section.
"Two hundred and eighty-three, Colonel."
"Send the same reply. No information to report. We are holding off unpacking the new Groupmind kernel that was transmitted last week until we can determine whether the Explorer's original iteration can be safely recovered."
"Yes, sir." Henri blinked once, an indication it was mulling something over in its electronic brain. "Colonel, you must know that if the Groupmind does not receive a reply it is willing to accept, it will send another ship out."
"Even if the Groupmind has another constructed already, it'll be a minimum of five years before it can reach our position, assuming the Visitor stays on course." Mitterrand raised an eyebrow at Henri. "This concerns you?"
Henri paused, another physical tic that had nothing to do with its ability to cogitate and everything to do with trying to make Mitterand comfortable by acting like it couldn't think a thousand times faster than any human. "My fellow morphs and I have noted that you and the other crew members have been much less tense since the Groupmind's Explorer iteration deleted itself."
"I'll admit that it is rather comforting, not to have Maman Groupmind looking over our shoulders every moment," Mitterrand said.
"But you need the Groupmind to aid you in examining the Visitor. It has to be stopped before it can reach the Ring and Earth," Henri said pensively. "Should it strike the Ring, or deorbit into the Earth, the devastation would be incalculable."
"We won't let that happen, Henri," Mitterrand said, patting the morph's shoulder. "I'm not going to put everyone on the Ring at risk, or risk destroying the Earth's ecosystem."
"But what are you going to do?" the morph asked.
"Why I believe I have control of the most advanced ship every constructed in the Solar System, and no Groupmind to tell me what to do with it," Mitterrand said cheerfully. "The possibilities are endless!"

Sleep Tight.
It was a warm yet peaceful night, the sounds of trees swaying in the light breeze and crackling from the dying campfire had already helped calm Ace until he was fast asleep, reduced to nothing but a few small shifts.
He was usually one of the last ones of his friends to actually go to bed as he’d always try and keep the adventure going until the very last second. This wasn’t so much of a problem for the others until it got incredibly late and Ace had gotten them lost or up a creek without a paddle only for him to laugh it off as just part of the experience.
This time when he was about to jump out with some ‘amazing’

Slave
In a large chamber of gold trim and crystals, there was a large group of wealthy people dining at a huge table, full of bountiful food. They all where chatting about there money, power, politics, and control over there people.
Then a small fox boy, wearing nothing but a white loincloth came in. He held a tray of crystal glasses full of alcoholic beverages. He walked over to the table, with a Sidisk coming up right behind him.
The boy was looking down at the floor the whole time. He soon went to one of the guests side, and traded his empty glass for a full one. He went on with his business, trying not to be noticed.

Punishment (F/m): Short Story
I never thought I would be punishing my son in such a significant way. My child is my pride – what parent wouldn’t say such a thing? Considering my profession, I thought I raised Matthew to act more responsibly. From an early age, practically from birth, I raised Matthew to respect law enforcement and obey the law. Above all else, I only wanted Matthew to stay out of the kind of trouble that so many kids his age seem to get into. Whenever I had to arrest a young teenager, I couldn’t help but wonder – and worry – how easily it could’ve been my son in this same situation. Now, we’re here – my greatest fear realized. It was barely past midnight when I heard the knock on my door. Matthew stood in front of me. His hands were bound behind his back, locked in a pair of handcuffs. Officer Chen loomed behind him, keeping a tight grip on his bicep despite the handcuffs. The porch light cast a spotlight in the dark around the two. I can’t help but feel like a failure, not being
